The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Óscar Puente, kicked off the works of the new Parla Norte Cercanías station in Madrid in an event that was attended by representatives of SOCOTEC.
Spanish engineering participates in the project as a consultant and technical assistance for the control of the works.
SOCOTEC brings its experience in civil engineering for railway infrastructures with the aim of guaranteeing quality and compliance with the deadlines. An example of this is the Valdebebas Interchange project, also in the Spanish capital, which is currently under construction. The engineering firm, which already participated in the drafting of the basic construction project for the station, will also be responsible for technical control assistance during the entire execution of the works.
The new Parla Norte station, which will be operational in the first half of 2025, will serve 73% of the population of this municipality in the south of the capital and improve its communication with the rest of the region. It is a modern, efficient and interconnected infrastructure that will become an urban landmark and an example of sustainable architecture.
New Station
Efficiency, interconnection and accessibility
The new Parla Norte station will be characterized by:
- Its energy efficiency: Recycled materials and energy efficiency systems will be used to minimize the environmental impact of the infrastructure.
- Its interconnection with other modes of transport: The station will be connected to the Parla tram, creating a multimodal interchange that will facilitate the mobility of citizens.
- Its universal accessibility: The station will have two platforms of 210 meters in length, a 900 square meter passenger building with a sustainable design, and an underpass that will connect both platforms.
More than 14,000 daily users
The functional study carried out by the Ministry of Transport estimates that the new station will have a potential demand of more than 14,000 daily users. This figure shows the need for this infrastructure to improve the quality of the Cercanías service in Parla, one of the municipalities with the largest population in the Community of Madrid.
Investment in the Cercanías network
The construction of the Parla Norte station is part of the Madrid Cercanías Improvement Plan, which contemplates a total investment of 7.1 billion euros. This plan includes 120 actions, among which are the improvement and expansion of the network of tracks, the renovation of the train fleet, and the modernization of the stations.
Urban landmark and sustainable architecture
The passenger building of the new Parla Norte station will be an urban landmark and an example of sustainable architecture. Its enveloping structure in the form of ribs will protect travelers from the weather and channel user flows.
