At SOCOTEC we are experts in designing solutions that minimise the negative impact on the environment, society and the economy. We conceive a better world, we are part of the change and we are aware of the responsibility that our brand acquires.
That is why we work every day to develop innovative solutions that allow us to remain at the forefront of our sector. In the article, we want to invite you to discover some of the sustainable engineering projects we have led.
Our commitment to the circular economy
The application of circular principles is always on our roadmap. We believe that all construction should be directed towards sustainability and circularity, aspects that we help to integrate our clients into all their processes. A clear example of a sustainable engineering project in which we have participated is the Office Building at Paseo de la Castellana 69, whose design implements the concepts of low carbon footprint impact, as well as circularity, seeking a Zero Carbon design, starting from the choice of materials and implementing bioclimatic strategies that allow the building to be classified as a Net Zero Building.
HOLCIM AWARDS
Carasso Houese
Another of our most outstanding sustainable engineering projects that received recognition from the Holcim Awards 2023 is the refurbishment of the Casa Carasso industrial building. The main particularity of this project was the use of a comprehensive co-design process that involved the local community. On the other hand, the original structure of the building was preserved to reduce the environmental impact of the construction, various gardens and orchards were installed that contribute to urban biodiversity and a series of measures were applied to ensure energy efficiency.

In addition to helping our clients incorporate a sustainable and circular perspective into their projects, at SOCOTEC we also want to promote collaboration between the academic and business worlds. That is why, together with the University of Zaragoza, in 2023, we are launching the first edition of the SOCOTEC Circular Engineering Chair Awards. This award aims to recognise excellence in bachelor's and master's degree final projects that address issues related to the circular economy, sustainability or circular engineering.
We work to achieve sustainable energy engineering
Within the field of energy management and consultancy, at SOCOTEC we develop techniques and measurements of energy consumption that allow our clients to improve their energy efficiency and management, from energy generation to final consumption.
In this sense, reducing the use of non-renewable energies and the extraction of natural resources is key. That is why we are also specialized in carrying out feasibility studies that allow the incorporation of renewable energies.
TECHNOLOGY & SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainable Civil Engineering with Electrical Machinery
In relation to the previous point, we have recently supervised the first municipal work with electrical machinery in Barcelona. In the development of this type of sustainable engineering projects, we obtain different advantages, such as the reduction of polluting emissions, noise and operating costs. Throughout all the phases, SOCOTEC has carried out a technical monitoring of the work, ensuring the technical and environmental requirements of the public institutions.

The preservation of the environment as the main driver
As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, one of our main objectives is to achieve environmental, social and economic sustainability, both internally and for our clients and other stakeholders.
That is why, from the area of environmental consulting, we offer comprehensive support to our clients, from the creation of a management plan that covers quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE), to the design of a sustainable development strategy with specific goals and results.
We work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are committed to climate neutrality by 2050 through the implementation of the Green Deal. Precisely, in order to meet the six environmental objectives of the European Taxonomy resulting from the Green Deal, we have created a new line of work: Green Trust. Through this innovative service, we can ensure the sustainability of buildings, facilities and infrastructure, foresee risks and adapt both new and existing buildings to climate change and energy problems.
