SOCOTEC, with its Health and Safety services in the execution phase, has guaranteed the effective implementation of preventive measures, changes in protections and signage. Our safety coordinators have ensured a safe working environment at all stages of the project, complying with current regulations.

The promotion of intermodality between modes of transport is a priority that we fully support. That is why a high-capacity car park for bicycles has been created in the area adjacent to the Badalona Renfe station.

This project has involved the execution of two phases by the AMB: one aimed at the supply and placement of the building and its internal mechanisms to house the bicycles, and another focused on the adaptation of the platform where the building has been installed, in addition to the construction of the two adjacent party walls and the provision of infrastructure for the Bicibox (electricity, electricity, electricity  fiber and sanitation).

The metal building of the BICIBOX has been located within the current alignment, but it has been planned to be relocated to a new alignment in the future, when the planned improvements for the entire square are made.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Health and Safety Coordination Services in the Execution Phase:

Coordinación de Seguridad y Salud

SOCOTEC has played a key role in this project by being in charge of the Health and Safety Coordination in the implementation phase. His work included supervising compliance with preventive measures, managing changes in protections, demarcations and signage during the various stages of the process.

The works were carried out inside a plot where a house was previously located, which was previously demolished, keeping the perimeter closed until the completion of the works and the delivery of the paved square.

Other aspects of the Health and Safety Plan

During the development of the project, it was necessary to enable a vehicle access from San Isidro Street and occasionally divert pedestrians to the opposite sidewalk using the existing pedestrian crossings. In addition, a bar terrace near the construction site was kept in operation, which required the training of a team of signallers with sufficient sensitivity to manage vehicular traffic in the work area.

The assembly of the building structure was carried out in a modular manner using a crane truck and lifting platforms. However, additional work was done on the deck to assemble the components, which involved the installation of temporary lifelines to ensure safety and prevent falls.

The Importance of Occupational Risk Prevention in Construction

The prevention of occupational risks is an essential factor in any work, especially in the construction of infrastructures such as bicycle parking. Ensuring the safety of workers is essential, and for this it is necessary to implement a series of preventive measures and constantly adapt these measures according to the needs of the project.

The continuous training of workers and the use of personal protective equipment are two of the most important aspects in this regard. In addition, clear procedures should be established for the operation of heavy machinery and for performing tasks at heights or in confined spaces.

The planning and coordination of activities also play a key role in the prevention of occupational risks. It is essential that all workers know the tasks they need to perform, when and how they need to do it, and what safety measures they need to follow. Finally, it is crucial to conduct a constant risk assessment and take corrective action when necessary.
