Project summary
The design for the Foredeck building was chosen in a competition then built for the 32nd edition of America’s Cup. The structure has come to represent the urban renovation of Valencia’s port.
Project details
The building is made up of four floors that are designed as floating levels. Their basic geometry consists of four stacked and overlapping decks of differing lengths, ranging from 52x32 m on the second floor to 68x43 m on the third.
Each of these levels is entirely supported by four concrete core elements that conceal the building’s vertical access points.
The most unique aspect of the Foredeck is its complex framework, with 30 m skylights and 14 m cantilevered floor slabs that are strong enough to satisfy its purpose as a public viewing deck. The building was completed in less than a year, from the announcement of the preliminary design chosen by the jury through to the delivery of the finished structure.
