Project summary
Creation of the construction design for the new bus and cycle lanes on Carretera C-245 between Castelldefels and Cornellà de Llobregat.
Project details
Generally speaking, intervention criteria for buses include:
- For sections of the road with 4 lanes, the section is converted from 2+2 lanes to 1+1 lanes for private vehicles and 1+1 lanes specifically for buses.
- For sections of the road with 2 lanes and available space, the road is widened, being converted from 1+1 existing lanes to 1+1 lanes for private vehicles and 1+1 lanes specifically for buses.
- In areas paved for 2 lanes where the road cannot be widened due to existing buildings, shared lane areas are created.
The entire route is being given new bus stops for a homogeneous design across the whole area.
A new traffic light network and new road signage have been planned for the entire project area. Signage specific to the cycle lanes has also been planned.
A new lighting network involving LED technology has also been planned along the whole road.
A new electric bus line with more frequent buses is planned to link up the five municipalities in the area. This will involve a terminus at each end of the line: one in Castelldefels (where C-245 meets Avinguda 302) and one in Cornellà de Llobregat (where Carretera de Esplugues meets Carrer de Lluís Muntadas). The electric buses will be recharged at these locations.
The cycle lane is to be added to the existing pavement. It will be 2.40 m wide and allow travel in both directions along its full length.
To define the new platform, the criteria indicated in the study order for minimum investment and maximum compatibility with the existing planning were followed.
Various squares and open areas along the route are to be transformed to create singular points along the bus lane. These will be large circular plazas where the new line of electric buses will drive alone along a central roadway.
