A new edition of the EUROCK symposium on "New Challenges in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering", organized by SEMR, the University of Alicante, will be held in Alicante, Spain, from July 15 to 19, 2024.
EUROCK 2024 will bring together experts and professionals from various fields to share knowledge and experiences in rock mechanics and its application in large-scale engineering projects. Crucial topics such as rock properties, testing methods and site characterization, fundamental for the development of robust and durable infrastructures, will be addressed.
Rock mechanics in mining and rock engineering will be discussed in depth, exploring techniques and methodologies for safe and efficient exploitation of natural resources. Participants will be introduced to design and analysis methods, essential tools for sound decision making in complex projects.

Piezometers: a crucial tool to which we must pay more attention
Numerical modeling and back analysis, 8. Monitoring and back analysis, led by José Estaire and Diego Manzanal.
José Raventos, director of the M&I department of SOCOTEC Spain, will give a presentation entitled "Piezometers: a crucial tool to which we must pay more attention". It will address the following topics:
Optimization of the use of piezometers: Strategies to take full advantage of the capabilities of these instruments in obtaining accurate and reliable geotechnical data will be discussed.
Prevention of common errors: The most frequent errors made during the installation and use of piezometers will be identified and explained, providing recommendations to avoid them.
Importance of ISO/EN 18674 standards: The relevance of following ISO/EN 18674 standards in the piezometer installation process will be emphasized to ensure the quality and reliability of the data obtained.
