Valdebebas Interchange: 60% Complete

Wed 19/06/2024 - 12:37

Valdebebas interchange construction, with SOCOTEC's technical assistance, is progressing at a good pace and has already reached 60% completion.

The Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, recently visited the works on this new public transport hub, which is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2024.

Once completed, the Valdebebas interchange will become a benchmark in sustainable mobility, benefiting more than 35,000 users daily. The total investment in this project amounts to 30 million euros.

A strategic public transport hub

The Valdebebas interchange will become a strategic public transport hub, connecting the C-1 Cercanías line, the 11 Metro line and urban buses.

It will also have bus bays for intercity buses, a taxi rank, a dissuasive car park, green areas, space for bicycles and electric scooters, and commercial premises.

This new connection point is part of the Community of Madrid's commitment to developing sustainable and accessible public transport projects, and has the support and engineering expertise of SOCOTEC.

"The SOCOTEC team is carrying out the technical assistance to meet the deadlines and to put this new infrastructure into operation, which will contribute to promoting the use of public transport and reducing the carbon footprint, reflecting SOCOTEC's commitment to sustainable mobility."

Almudena Vecino, National Works Management Director at SOCOTEC

New Interchange

A unique and avant-garde design

Inspired by nature, the interchange is characterized by its unique roof with 17 steel "umbrellas" that house large glass panels, allowing for great luminosity and an overall view of the space.

The Valdebebas interchange will not only be an important transport connection point, but will also become a new public space for the residents of the expanding neighborhood, the staff of the Isabel Zendal Hospital and the workers of the future City of Justice.

The garden areas and commercial premises will provide a meeting place and dynamize the social life of the area.
