The Valdebebas interchange, whose construction was technically assisted by SOCOTEC, has been officially inaugurated by the president of the Community of Madrid. This new transportation hub becomes the sixth in the region and is expected to be used by more than 35,000 people daily.
The interchange connects with the C-1 and C-10 Cercanías lines and various urban and intercity bus lines. Additionally, once the extension of metro line 11 is completed, it will also have a station, consolidating it as a key connection point in northern Madrid.
Sustainable and Avant-garde Design
With an innovative and sustainable design, the interchange stands out for its glass and steel structure, evoking the image of inverted trees or umbrellas and blending harmoniously with the surroundings of the Valdebebas-Felipe VI forest park. The façade features a curtain wall that allows natural light to enter and offers excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Moreover, the installation of photovoltaic panels will cover 20% of the building's energy demand, contributing to a reduction of CO2 emissions by 32 tons per year.
A Multifunctional Space
The 7,000 square meter building, spread over two floors, houses fourteen commercial premises, a leisure area, and a parking lot with 200 spaces, including charging points for electric vehicles and areas for bicycles and scooters. The upper floor, accessible from Avenida de las Fuerzas Armadas, has bus bays and taxi ranks. The lower floor connects to the City of Justice through a large wooded area.
The SOCOTEC team is proud to have contributed to the construction of this new infrastructure, which promotes the use of public transport and reduces the carbon footprint. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable mobility and the development of more livable cities.
A Project for the Future
The Community of Madrid has invested 36 million euros, from European funds, in the construction of this interchange, which anticipates the needs of a rapidly growing area. In addition to the 35,000 residents already registered in Valdebebas, the interchange will serve the workers and visitors of the future City of Justice, whose construction will begin shortly.
Connection to the Future of Public Transport
The Ministry of Transport has planned future access to the platforms of metro line 11 on the ground floor of the interchange. This southward expansion will be carried out by the Joint Venture (UTE) formed by SOCOTEC and Proes, who will be responsible for drafting the executive project.
The Valdebebas interchange represents a new nerve center for sustainable mobility in Madrid, where SOCOTEC has contributed its extensive experience in transportation infrastructure projects, providing an efficient and convenient alternative for public transport users and anticipating the future needs of a rapidly growing area.
