Marine geotechnical studies kick off the expansion of the port of Valencia and its new railway terminal.

The marine geotechnical studies for the expansion of the ports of Valencia and Sagunto have begun.

Through this initiative, promoted by the Port Authority of Valencia, SOCOTEC in collaboration in joint venture with Ensaya, Intercontrol and Gem, detailed data of the seabed will be obtained, allowing the design of a solid and sustainable port infrastructure.

To guarantee the safety and longevity of the future port infrastructure, a consortium of SOCOTEC, Ensaya, Intercontrol, and GEM has launched a comprehensive marine geotechnical study.

Over the next eight months, the team will conduct extensive drilling and sampling operations on the seabed using self-elevating platforms.

This data will inform a thorough subsoil investigation and environmental assessment, providing critical insights for building a robust and sustainable port facility.

Rail terminals

Spain's largest

The new terminal at the Port of Valencia and Sagunto, which will be the largest in Spain, will be equipped with the largest rail terminal in a Spanish port.

Designed under strict environmental criteria, this infrastructure will double the national rail freight quota, thus reducing the number of trucks at the port accesses and decongesting Valencia's roads.

The participation of SOCOTEC, with its team of geotechnical experts to carry out detailed investigations that provide a comprehensive view of the seafloor conditions in the Port of Valencia and Sagunto.
