SOCOTEC is involved in the development of a portable bridge. The project is funded by the Ministry of Science.
The project is being funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities as part of the Challenges-Collaboration subprogramme of the investigation, development and innovation promotion programme focussing on societal challenges.
This project will involve the design, manufacture and demonstration of a single, modular, ultra-light portable bridge (PS-Bridge) specifically intended for emergency situations requiring rapid deployment of a means to restore transport links.
The solution that PSTECH intends to market, in collaboration with CIMNE and SOCOTEC, is called PS-Bridge and is based on the development and use of novel technology called Tensairity. This technology lowers the weight of temporary bridges, thereby lowering the volume required for transport and the effort required to set them up. These advantages are crucial for temporary bridges and will offer a ground-breaking solution to the sector, easing humanitarian aid interventions in regions often devastated by natural disasters.
