Constant following and monitoring of the structure, floor and industrial facility's parameters is essential to ensure the safety and sustainability of the built environment.

The SOCOTEC SPAIN Monitoring Congress II will present state-of-the-art monitoring techniques that are being used internationally to assess and manage the structural and geotechnical integrity of various infrastructures, including bridges, buildings, dams and tunnels, as well as tank and pipeline inspection for the industrial sector.

Speakers

Fernando Díez Rubio: Dr. Civil Engineer and Lecturer

Filippo Bastianini: Specialist in sensors, optics, smart materials, non-destructive testing and monitoring.

Daniel Thompson: Specialist in geophysical and non-destructive techniques and geotechnical monitoring in civil engineering works.

Bruno Fileno: Europe Positioning Senior Business Development Manager for Monitoring and Tunneling at Topcon

Juan Pérez Arcas: Worldsensing Instrumentation and Monitoring Manager

Martin Clegg: Managing Director at GeoSense & Expert in soil science and geotechnical engineering

Guillem Baraut: CEO of SOCOTEC Spain

Abel Domato: Managing Director of Tests, inspections, Auscultation and Geotechnics of SOCOTEC Spain

Josep Raventós: Geotechnical and Monitoring Manager at SOCOTEC Spain.

Congress programme

8th June from 8:30 to 13:30

Instituto de Ciencias de la Construcción Eduardo Torroja

Guillem Baraut, CEO Socotec Spain - Brief welcome speech and start of the technical session.

Fernando Díez Rubio will give his vision of the field of monitoring and its importance in the built environment.

Filippo Bastianini, monitoring expert from SOCOTEC Italy, will present the latest monitoring equipment we are incorporating in SOCOTEC Group.

Aging infrastructure across Europe is increasing pressure to provide effective long-term monitoring, which is vital to prevent construction failures and protect lives. Monitoring systems have been available for decades, but connected and evaluative monitoring systems are making monitoring simpler than ever. These systems can offer valuable benefits for companies looking to improve efficiency in terms of time, money and resources.

Networking and opportunity to test Worldsensing and TOPCON products.

The new technologies (LoRa and LoRaWAN) were designed to connect objects by means of sensors powered by internal batteries. These technologies - among them LoRa and LoRaWAN - are currently being applied to the monitoring of tunnels and subway excavations allowing the automation of taking readings at points where it was not possible before, such as extensometers, piezometers or fixed inclinometer chains in boreholes in built-up areas. The presentation will review what these technologies are contributing to the monitoring of tunnels and excavations, focusing on new applications for the control of segment ring lining from the production of the segments to the operation phase. Finally, some relevant aspects for the scalability of projects such as network management and the possibilities to extend the networks as the project progresses will be discussed.

These new wireless technologies are already available for any type of project and allow access to relevant data continuously and with the appropriate sampling frequency.

- Speaker: Juan Pérez Arcas

Juan is the Instrumentation and Monitoring Manager at Worldsensing. Since 2013, he has been one of the most outstanding contributors to the development and growth of the world-renowned Loadsensing wireless monitoring system. A recognized Geological Engineer, he accumulates more than 18 years of experience and knowledge in the field of geotechnical engineering, instrumentation, data management, data acquisition systems and low-power wide area networks.

Before joining Worldsensing, he worked for the geotechnical and structural instrumentation services company Ingauss and MK4, a post-tensioning company specializing in solutions for the construction and maintenance of bridges and structures.

An expert will explain the novelties in the field of monitoring in Geosense.

Daniel Thompson, monitoring expert from SOCOTEC UK will present the latest monitoring equipment incorporated in the SOCOTEC Group.

In this presentation, we will analyze the importance of design, instrumentation and monitoring as key processes in the auscultation of SOCOTEC Spain projects. Through concrete examples, we will learn how we have combined these processes in the most appropriate way to achieve the objectives of each client.
