We always include urban sustainability criteria in our smart city, urbanisation and resilience analysis projects.
We take part in cities’ urban development, transforming them into resilient and sustainable spaces, in order to improve quality of life for inhabitants
We always include urban sustainability criteria in our projects. Our multidisciplinary teams specialise in a wide variety of areas such as architecture, civil engineering, agronomy and the environment.
We therefore consider how to use systems to reduce energy consumption in our designs. For example, when installing smart public lighting systems, we prioritise sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) with the aim of using the water recovered by these systems for irrigation networks.

Urbanism services
We specialise in the use of green pavements, working with the most state-of-the-art materials for urban settings such as noise-reducing pavements, pavements with surfaces that capture CO2, permeable pavements, and natural stabilising materials for granular pavements.
We upgrade urban environments by making them resilient, creating sustainable urban centres that perfectly integrate with their natural surroundings.

Urbanisation
We have acquired considerable experience in carrying out urban upgrades by integrating transport infrastructure such as underground railways, wide avenues, and town or city centre parking.
Many public and private sector clients have entrusted our team of specialists with either the planning and creation of master plans to define or manage worksites for new urbanisation projects, or to improve or adapt existing environments to new conditions.

Smart City
Our team has played an active and pioneering role in transforming dense city centres like Barcelona into smart cities.
The implementation of smart systems is closely linked to the concept of sustainability; for example, our projects include smart systems for public lighting or irrigation facilities that use light or rain/humidity sensors respectively.

Resilience analysis
Resilience is the ability to adapt to and minimise any impact in order to recover quickly and effectively from its effects.
When we apply that concept to cities, resilience aims to protect against an impact that may put their utility at risk, as well as any social and/or environmental effects.
At SOCOTEC, we take a cross-disciplinary approach to resilience and apply it in a logical and comprehensive manner to all our urban projects, whether they involve infrastructure, civil engineering or urbanism. We also take a holistic approach to urban services, social repercussions and the impact of climate change on cities, services and, most importantly, inhabitants.
