Project Summary
The First Line of the Bogotá Metro (PLMB) is more than a transportation project; it is an opportunity to transform the public space along its route, improving the quality of life of both users of the system and citizens who live or work nearby. The figures are impressive: the project will renovate 1,348,106 m² of public space, including sidewalks, separators, plazas, bike paths and roads. In addition, Bogotá will gain 94,856 m² of new public space.
The PLMB was designed under the principles of Development Oriented to Sustainable Transportation (DOTS), prioritizing modes of travel powered by the human body (walking, cycling or skateboarding) and those powered by clean energy (such as electric subways) over those powered by fossil fuels, which increase pollution.
